For a senior, this is much harder to determine. An experienced DevOps Engineer is highly sought after by companies, so there is plenty of room at commercial firms to negotiate a good salary. Additionally, seniors relatively often work as freelancers, which makes comparing salaries difficult.
An estimate of the average salary of a Senior DevOps Engineer is around €75,000 gross per year. That is €5,800 gross per month.
Impact of education on your income as a DevOps Engineer
Experience naturally weighs very heavily when it comes to achievable salary, but what about education?
Statistics show that your educational background has less influence on your salary. 901% of companies are looking for a DevOps engineer with a relevant higher professional education (HBO) degree. Think of (technical) informatics or Computer Sciences. Only 71% of companies are actively looking for someone with a university degree (WO). For someone with a secondary vocational education (MBO) background, however, it becomes difficult: only 21% of companies believe that someone with an MBO education can become a suitable DevOps engineer.
Salary vs. Job Satisfaction
Research shows that a good salary is very important for many DevOps Engineers. For 55%, it is even the most important factor when looking for a new employer. That is significantly higher than the average Dutch workforce (37%).
